When my oldest son was very small I remember taking an evening job working as a telephone market research interviewer (yes - I was one of those annoying people who ring you up just as you’re about to sit down and eat your evening meal!) I worked for a large, international company in a swish office filled with around 20 - 30 other people all doing the same thing.
We’d turn up just before 6 pm for a briefing about who we were targeting and the nature of the questions we had to ask, then we’d spend the best part of the next 3 hours with our headphones on, dialling random telephone numbers - just hoping that we’d strike it lucky and get to speak to someone who fitted the specific criteria we’d been given. Some nights you might manage to complete 10 or so surveys - but other nights it would be like pulling teeth and you wouldn’t even come across one willing - or suitable - participant.
I’m going to show my age now by telling you that I did this type of work back in the early nineties, when the term “world wide web” had no real meaning - or certainly not the meaning it has today! Nowadays of course it is a totally different story, and market research companies all over the world have cottoned on to the fact that it’s more efficient and cost effective to use the internet to find willing people to form a database of panelists, who in exchange for providing a few details are paid directly by the research company to give their much needed opinion on a variety of topics. This means that if for example an electronics company contacts a research company stating they want to pay them to find 4000 males from a particular region aged 30 to 65 to test out a new product, the research company can tap into it’s database of panelists and hey presto! They have found their target audience. The research company sends out e mail invites to all panelists who fit the criteria until they have reached their quota. The electronics company then goes on to pay the research firm, who in turn pay each panelist an amount for taking the time and trouble to take part.

Some companies pay you in cash (either by cheque, Paypal or directly into your bank account) and some pay in gift vouchers. Each company stipulates a minimum amount that you have to earn before they will pay. Once you’ve requested a payment, you can expect to receive it anything from 1 day to 6 weeks later, depending on the payment method used.
Quite often you will be invited to take part in a survey then find you are screened out after the first two or three questions. This can be disheartening at first, but don’t worry - it’s nothing personal - and for every survey you are screened out of, there will be another two or three you will be eligible for. Some companies also pay you a small amount even if you’re screened out - so you haven’t always totally wasted your time.
It’s fair to say that you shouldn’t expect to earn a full time income taking part in paid surveys, but it is certainly possible to earn a respectable part time income if you’re prepared to join at least 30 panels. Some companies send out multiple invites every day, whereas others only send out one or two invites every few weeks. The amount you are paid varies from company to company, but an average figure would be around $1 for 5 minutes of your time. This may not sound a great deal, but if you multiply this by 20 - 30 surveys every day it starts to sound healthier! And another bonus is the total flexibility you have. You can easily fit your paid survey work around other commitments, slot in a couple of surveys whilst you’re having a cup of coffee, or even log in and do some surveys at 2 in the morning if you want to!

As I mentioned earlier, the key expression where paid surveys are concerned is “the more the merrier!”. If you only join one or two sites you will not earn more than four or five dollars a week, but if you’re prepared to give a little time setting everything up at the outset and sign up to 30+ panels, you will soon start to see your income grow.
At the foot of this page I will tell you some quick and easy ways to find details of hundreds of paid survey companies without having to spend hours trawling the search engines, but to get you started I have reviewed just a small sample of sites that I personally use on a daily basis below to give you a better idea of what you can expect when you register. All of these sites are free to join and pay in cash.

PURE PROFILE is a really excellent company with an informative and clearly laid out website. You can expect several new surveys every week most of which will take you no longer than 5-10 minutes to complete, paying an average of $3 per survey. Unlike many paid survey sites, Pure Profile will also pay you a nominal amount if you’re screened out after the first few questions of a survey. When you sign up you have the choice of filling in several profile questionnaires, and this enables Pure Profile to link you to surveys that correspond with your interests. This takes around half an hour to do, but it’s well worth completing all sections if you want to secure your chances of being invited to more surveys on a regular basis. Payments are made via Paypal when you have accrued $25 in your account. A word of advice with Pure Profile though - it’s important to log into your account every day to see if any new surveys have become available, as in my experience they don’t always send out e mail invites. It’s well worth taking 2 minutes out to do this because Pure Profile are one of the highest paying companies.

SURVEY HEAD is an international site which offers members new surveys on a daily basis. You are paid on average around $3 for 10 minutes of your time. You will be sent an e mail inviting you to take part in the surveys which you stand the highest chance of being eligible for. However I’ve found it’s well worth logging into your account on a daily basis, as you’ll almost always find there are several other surveys which you may well be able to take too. Surveyhead publishes a scale alongside of each available survey, outlining the likelihood of you meeting the criteria, based on the information you provided when you signed up. They also clearly show how much you’ll be paid for each survey. You are rewarded with $5 just for signing up and it’s a very simple 5 minute sign-up process.

PALM RESEARCH is a site open to members worldwide, but particularly welcomes panelists from the US, Canada, Germany and the UK. Once you’ve completed their very simple registration process you can expect to receive two survey invites every day via e mail. Each survey generally pays $1 and takes no more than a few minutes to complete so you can soon start to build up a useful part time income when you work this site alongside of several others. Payment is made by either Paypal or cheque when your balance reaches a minimum of $10. Palm Research has a well laid out site and if you don’t want to wait for survey invites by e mail, you can log into the members area and check out what is available there too.

ADPAID is one of my personal favourite sites because there are so many different ways you can earn money with it! The site welcomes members from a large number of countries, and send out at least two survey invites by e mail every day, each paying 80 cents. The surveys usually only take two or three minutes to complete and cover a variety of topics. You’ll also find you can earn by completing free offers, shopping online and for reading e mails. You are awarded points for each activity you complete, which can be converted to cash through Paypal. The AdPaid admin team also have regular cash prize draws to reward their members even further. Every time you take part in an activity through the AdPaid site you are automatically given an entry into the draw. And if you know of anyone else who would benefit from being an AdPaid member, providing they join through your unique referral link, you will be paid every time they carry out any activity through the site too!

CASH CRATE is slightly different to the other Paid Survey sites featured on this page. Not only does it offer many new paid survey opportunities on a daily basis, but you can also get paid for trying out new offers and visiting web sites. You need to log into your account on a daily basis as there are no e mail invites, but you’ll find stacks of new offers made available every day so it’s well worth your while. The opportunities are available to people worldwide and payments are made in cash when your balance reaches $20. It’s worth telling your friends about Cash Crate too, as they have an extremely generous referral program which will boost your income very quickly. **If you are interested in finding out more about other similar sites to Cash Crate, it’s worth checking out a great free program called Marketing Pond which is featured on our Paid to Click page**

INBOX DOLLARS This site has been online since 2000 and has earned an excellent reputation. The program welcomes members from a number of different countries but those living in the US have the highest earning potential. Once you’ve created your account (which is a very simple process) you need to log into your account every day to check out what surveys are available. You will be sent the occasional e mail telling you about special paid offers and you’re usually offered a small incentive for reading the e mail, but these are not frequent. Payments are made by cheque (in US $) when your balance reaches $30. The site is really well laid out and user friendly and is updated with lots of new opportunities every day. You get an instant $5 paid into your account just for joining and you also receive 10% of your referrals’ income too.

If you’re seriously interested in earning a respectable part time income through paid survey activities, I can’t stress it strongly enough that the level of your success will depend entirely on how many companies you register with. You’ve no doubt seen companies advertising extensive databases of paid survey opportunities and promising you great riches for a few minutes of your time each day but sadly, it’s a well documented fact that around 90% of these programs are scams.
One of the 10% of companies who do deliver what they promise is Survey Scout
Survey Scout has been online since 2003 and has helped thousands of people in over 50 countries to earn extra income. You pay a one time fee of $34.95, and in return you will have instant access to a massive database of 400 paid survey companies. However, if that sounds expensive, you’ll be pleased to know that you receive your first online survey assignment paying $25 immediately after joining. and as an added bonus you now also get access to a series of other money making reports and home based work opportunities which will most certainly be of interest to you. This information alone is valued at over $300.
With it’s user friendly members area and regularly updated database of companies , most people who join Survey Scout are more than satisfied with what they receive for their money. However if for some reason you don’t think it is quite what you’re looking for, you have 45 days to request a full refund. |
